Mental Health Court Support
Category of Service | Diversion and Court Support
Mental Health Court Support and Diversion Program is a voluntary program which allows persons with a serious mental illness, developmental disability or brain injury who are accused of minor criminal offences to be directed away from the criminal justice system. In its place the person agrees to embark upon an individual support treatment program in the community designed to meet their needs. The goal is to minimize future involvement in the justice system. With diversion there is no trail and no conviction. The program may also assist with persons who are not eligible for diversion because of the nature of their offences, in matters of bail, sentencing, as well as recommending community supports. Discharge planning is a voluntary program which provides clients that are currently institutionalized, assistance to reintegrate back into their community in a safe and supportive manner. Model of service is case management. Average length of stay is one year.
This program is restricted to the following clients:
Clients with Legal Issues

Other Restrictions: Restricted to individuals with a serious mental illness whom have been charged with an offence. Diversion program restricted to criteria of non-violent first offence.
