
Mental Health Service Information Ontario (MHSIO) is a province-wide information and referral service providing Ontarians with round-the-clock access to information about mental health services and supports across the province. Service is provided in over 140 languages to consumers, families, service providers and others seeking information about mental health resources.
Mental Health Service Information Ontario (MHSIO) is a service of ConnexOntario Health Services Information and is funded by the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care (MOHLTC).
MHSIO specializes in the provision of information and referral to services/supports related to mental health in Ontario and is designed to link callers with suitable options tailored to their individual needs. MHSIO operates a confidential and anonymous Information Line (1-866-531-2600) which is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
MHSIO maintains a comprehensive centralized data repository of information about mental health services that is updated regularly and includes information on approximately 300 mental health organizations in Ontario providing over 1,000 different programs.
MHSIO provides comprehensive, up-to-date reports on the a wide range of mental health service options, detailed descriptions of the types of services available, and referral and admission procedures. MHSIO contributes reliable, standardized, aggregate data to support system planning on a provincial and Local Health Integration Network (LHIN) basis.
MHSIO responds to requests from the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, other planning bodies, researchers, and service organizations for summaries of descriptive and statistical information from the MHSIO database regarding the mental health service system in Ontario.
MHSIO categorizes mental health organizations and programs in a manner which supports existing mental health collection systems such as the MOHLTC Management Information System (MIS), Common Data Set (CDS), and the Continuing Care e-Health Referral and Access Tracking project.
MHSIO utilizes information in its database for its interactive, online service directory on the MHSIO web site at www.mhsio.on.ca. In the future, this information will also be used to produce a print Directory of Mental Health Organizations in Ontario.
The MHSIO database includes mental health organizations in Ontario that receive funding (in whole or in part) from the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, Mental Health and Addictions Branch.
